Welcome to Observatory Publications!
Human mortality is a rare constant in a changing world. Yet how we die is a matter of growing social, medical and moral complexity and creates one of the major challenges of our times. Observatory Publications promotes the understanding of death, dying and bereavement; seeks to improve care at the end of life; fosters interdisciplinary perspectives; and encourages the most innovative writers, editors and researchers in the field.
Observatory Publications focuses on the following areas:- Historical and cultural studies of hospice, palliative care and related end of life issues
- Studies of current issues in the development of palliative care both nationally and internationally, focusing on service development, policy factors and reimbursement issues
- Empirical and theoretical contributions on mortality and end of life issues from anthropology, sociology, social psychology, ethics, religious studies and the clinical disciplines
Founded in 2003 by the sociologist Professor David Clark, Observatory Publications is located within the International Observatory on End of Life Care at Lancaster University.
Proceeds from the sale of Observatory Publications literature are used to support the work of the Observatory which operates on a non-profit basis.
